After a delayed start to the semester, I hope that everyone's eportfolio experiences have been going well. We would love to hear how things are going so far this semester? Questions? Observations? Feel free to comment here or send an email, [email protected]
Eportfolios in the News: There is a new article by American Association of Colleges and Universities focused on the value of eportfolios as an educational practice that strongly supports student success: http://www.aacu.org/peerreview/2015/fall/hubert
We have working on two fronts to support eportfolios for next year: Word Press Templates (Word Press with Training Wheels) and support for students in the digital learning labs.
Word Press Template Initiative: We are working with IT to develop some relatively simple templates in Word Press that are already set up with the basics for the MC eportfolio pilot and that are significantly easier to use because the dashboard will be simplified. Additionally, we will be able to create some tailored resources specifically for the templates, and we will be able to provide tailored trainings. These templates will be hosted by MC and will have a standardized URL. These will be one option for students; we will continue to allow students choose among www.weebly.com, www.wix.com or any www.wordpress.com site, in addition to the templates.
Want to get involved? Template Testing-We anticipate having a testing session with students and other interested parties in mid to late April. If you have a student you would like to recommend or if you would like to participate in the design testing, please let me know ([email protected])
Digital Learning Labs as eportfolio support sites: We are working with the new Digital Learning labs to make these spaces where students can get technical help on eportfolios. (They will also be offering trainings and support for other types of technology topics like using powerpoint, etc.) We expect the digital learning labs will be available for student eportfolio support beginning in the Fall 2016, We are planning to begin offering student eportfolio workshops in Spring 2017. (Although we may try a few in the Fall as well.) The digital learning labs will be on each campus, and we will have a student handout available for them.
All exciting things!
